Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2016

Here we are to talk about our adventure at the most important fair dedicated to publishing for children, in Italy and worldwide.
Held in the capital of Emilia Romagna, Bologna Children’s Book Fair is in its 53rd edition with this year’s motto “Fuel the imagination”. During the past years, the fair has been the witness of the trends regarding publishing for children, as well as Italian and international illustrations and brands.A market opportunity and cultural event which had Germany as Guest of Honor, with the latter’s exhibit title “Look!”, chosen to star a selection of worthy German illustrators in an international showcase.

Mash&Co team began its adventure on Sunday, April 3rd with Dust or Magic masterclass, a three hours where we learned from the success stories of app creators and digital contents for children. We also presented the demo projects we’re working on, followed by a wonderful networking dinner with participants and organizers, in one of the renowned restaurants in the center of Bologna.

In the following days, Mash&Co has had the opportunity to exhibit at the Microsoft booth, where teachers and parents showed an overwhelming interest in Mash&Co world. Most of all, they appreciated the mission that we want to convey, that is to introduce preschoolers to important social issues such as environmental awareness and respect through an exploratory game, combining storytelling, animation, interactivity in a trans-media manner.

What is trans-media? It is type of communication that immerses users into new narrative experience consumption, through different types of media. This is what Mash&Co has to offer children, creating a series putting together classic cartoons, interactive cartoons and mini games.

Credits goes to the Digital Hall which was far extended compared to 2015. We have been witness of a greater presence of exhibitors and several talks at the Digital Cafe, specifically set up for the hall. A sign that digital is an increasing trend in publishing for children, despite a general persisting skepticism.

The days spent in Bologna book fair was awesome. It has been an experience of sharing and important networking that makes us grow in terms of awareness and that could definitely open up the doors to new possibilities.

Looking forward to the next edition of the fair on 3-6 April 2017!
