How To Raise Smart Kids

We are always looking for advice to raise our children right and to make them brighter. Life is getting more and more frantic, and we often wonder if we are taking the right choices in educating our children and make them smart. Did I do the right thing today? Is my son growing up well?

These are typical questions that spring into the mind of the parents. I am happy to tell you that there is no “universal method” to follow, but there are smart habits that can be useful to have smart kids, lifestyle and to move with the times. Did you know that intelligence is not just innate, and can improve day by day?

Here are our tips to train the intelligence of your children:

1. Play Simple Games

A “simple environment” rich in “simple games” stimulate your child to “do” more and more: inventing, creating, imagining, exploring. Everything we have at home can be used smartly: White paper, wooden blocks, rolls, plastic cups, blankets, cushions, boxes. These are the best games to play with children. In fact, the more a game is simple, the more the child will be stimulated to use their fantasy, creativity, and imagination.

2. Listen to classical music

Music has a positive influence on physical and mental well-being. The most “smart music” is the classic one. Various scientific researchers have found that it is rich in symmetry and recurring patterns. Therefore it is capable of enhancing mind, concentration, calm, and creativity. For example, the high frequencies of Mozart’s music are pure energy for our neurons, especially when for kids, they are, in fact, very stimulating and eye-catching.

3. Surround yourself with Books

A house full of books is a house full of treasures. Start reading to your kids at a young age, even though they do not understand the words yet. An early approach to reading will encourage their interest in this. When they become a little bigger, read with them. Reading reveals distant worlds, put ourselves into the of others’ shoes, opens up new ways of thinking. It is the smartest activity existing.

 4. Teach attention

A study at Washington University in Saint Louis has found that fluid intelligence the one that allows finding creative solutions, depends primarily on the ability to focus. Attention is learned and strengthened with time. Give your children a good example, pay attention to their tales, look in their eyes, listen to them without distraction. They will learn to do the same.

5. Enrich your kids’ vocabulary

The more your children’s language is rich in words, the more their abstraction abilities increase. Let them express themselves with the right words and not with tears or gestures. Teach them to “categorize” because everything has a name and can communicate through words; By doing so, children learn to put an order in the universe of language and establish hierarchies by making associations. A game that can help categorize your children is the game of the tree: you start with a word (the trunk) and gradually become prosperous with particulars (the branches).

6. Download Smart and interactive apps

Interactive apps are great tools to let play. Choose Smart apps that activate the mind-on mode and then those that stimulate reasoning, imagination, and problem-solving. Several studies have shown that children learn better if their parents play with them by helping them to deepen the topics and build a context of meaning.

Letizia Grasso, Educationalist
“All grown-ups were children, but few of them remember it” This phrase is engraved on my heart. The child who marvels of small things is always with me. I firmly believe that the school should focus on the self-construction of knowledge through direct contact with the outside world and, therefore, through the experiences of life. A school open to life and from life itself learns. A school that teaches to observe every little thing, to wonder and to asks questions. A school that forms adults who know how to reflect and put into a relationship the mind and heart.”
